O jego życiu prywatnym wiadomo dużo jak i to, że był do szpiku kości masonem; co nie przeszkodziło mu w napisaniu Mszy c-moll, Requiem, no i głosić pochwałę miłości między mężczyzną, a kobietą niczym św Paweł w liście do Koryntian. Zaczarowany Flet był jego ostatnią operą. Mozart zmarł kilka miesięcy po premierze.
